The South Australian Nationals believe that we need to look after those that look after us.
“Members of the CFS, SES and the other emergency services covered by funding from the Emergency Services Levy are putting themselves forward to protect the community. They go towards the flames, the pain and disaster so that others can go the other way.” Said State President and Candidate for MacKillop Jonathan Pietzsch.
“While they count the cost in lost time and peace of mind to them and their families, they are also paying for their service in the form of the Emergency Services Levy. We believe that this is not an acceptable situation.”
The SA Nationals propose that all currently serving volunteer members of an emergency service receive an immediate rebate for the ESL as it relates to their primary place of residence. We believe that this is only a small and just recognition for the time and effort that is put in.
“South Australian Ambulance Service volunteers would also be covered under these proposed changes,” said Mr Pietzsch, “while SAAS is not currently funded under the ESL their volunteers are equally an Emergency Service as are the members of the CFS and SES with whom they attend incidents.
I look forward to a commitment from both the Liberal and Labor parties in joining with The Nationals in implementing this policy.”
