The Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud, visited Barker this week.
Kicking the visit off, Mr Littleproud meet with local producers in the Keith pub on the Monday night talking all things Ag before visiting local producers on the Tuesday. Taking the opportunity to look over the Mt Boothby Pastoral pig growing pens before heading out to see the expansion at the Thomas Foods Feedlot north of Tintinara.
"It's great to see the confidence in the investment by Thomas Food to expand their facilities here in South Australia. It's investment like this that is driving the regions and driving regional employment. Meeting the staff and hearing how the feedlot is bringing people from across the nation to work in Tintinara was fantastic. It's not only growing employment but boosting the local economy at the same time."
The Minister also announced over $24.5m for 30 projects across the nation to tackle pests & weeds on the visit of which $4m will go to projects in SA to eradicate feral deer, wild dogs & manage weed control.
