Nationals To Contest Barker

The SA Nationals have endorsed State President, Jonathan Pietzsch, as their candidate for the eastern regional South Australian seat of Barker at the upcoming Federal Election.

Pietzsch, 33, married with 2 young children, is a cattle farmer at Tintinara, and a Country Fire Service (CFS) volunteer.

“As someone who lives in a rural community, I understand the issues and know what needs to be done to help regional communities thrive,” Mr Pietzsch said. “South Australia needs dedicated Regional Representation in the Federal Parliament to be the voice for Regional South Australia, a voice that has been missing for too long.”

Pietzsch said his campaign would concentrate on listening to locals, pushing for improved funding for regional health, looking at ways to address the regional housing crisis and finding pathways to increase the supply of skilled workers in regional areas.

“We have made significant inroads already in SA with Federal Minister for Regional Health, Dr David Gillespie, announcing $60M of funding for improved Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training in South Australia, after the SA Nationals brought him to visit local medical training facilities.”

Pietzsch said it is no coincidence National Party seats around the nation have seen billions of dollars invested into local development and nation building projects.

“Nationals MP’s on the east coast have banged on doors in Canberra and fought the fight for their regions.”

“We are proud of our record of delivering for local communities – improving roads, supporting jobs and businesses through drought and taking practical measures to reduce the pressures caused by increased prices. Only the Nationals understand regional Australia.”

Pietzsch is active in his local community as a CFS volunteer, Chair of the local Lutheran Church, Vice Chair of TRADE and on various local sporting and hall committees.
